Have You Gone Somewhere Interesting this Summer?

Did you know that there is a list of Great Adventure Towns? National Geographic compiled the list last fall selecting "50 innovative towns that aren’t just prime relocation spots right now, but smart choices for the future. Not only do they have the action. They’ve got a plan." (http://adventure.nationalgeographic.com/2008/09/weekend-getaways/best-places-to-live/rockies-text)

National Geographic calls Silver City "Quaint, friendly, and affordable, southwestern New Mexico’s Silver City is what Santa Fe was before trustafarians took over. Hike or bike seven miles of rocky trails in the rolling Boston Hills, a reclaimed historic mining area overlooking town. Or hook up with the nearby Continental Divide Trail ascending the Pinos Altos Mountains in 3.3-million-acre Gila National Forest. "

I would like to add to that the commitment and dedication of folks here to local produce, organic gardening, the slow food movement, and stewardship of the land. You can walk just about any street in town and see wonderful gardens full of herbs, flowers, and vegetables. The Farmers' Market every Saturday is so vibrant with freshly picked veggies, free-range eggs, and freshly baked goodies. The saying, "You are what you eat" should be a Silver City motto - Silver City Folks eat good and they are good folks.
